The game was played in a friendly manner with both sides trying to get the ball down and play good football. Whitehawk had the most and better chances throughout the game. A couple of really good saves by Jack Gunn early on kept the scores level but it was with 12 minutes remaining that Mile Oak scored following a corner that wasn’t cleared properly and the deflected shot from outside the area nestled in the corner of the net.
Falling behind slightly against the run of play the Whitehawk boys responded superbly and within a few minutes were on level terms with Harry Shooman scoring with a shot from outside the box. The winner followed with five minutes remaining when Mike Thomas turned well in the box and shot into the top corner. The relief of the result was there for all to see after all last seasons’ efforts had produced no wins.
