Whitehawk 3-0 Gosport Borough
Saturday 26th March 2016
National League South
Gosport’s woes continued on Saturday as they were defeated 3-0 by an improving Whitehawk side. Borough have had a troubled week and reportedly only had 11 fit players available for the trip to Brighton and were unable to strengthen their side with more players owing to a transfer embargo after the Hampshire side failed to play players wages on time, something which was resolved on Thursday.
Things could have immediately got worse for the visitors after just a few seconds as Danny Mills fired a well struck effort towards goal, but luckily for Gosport it went just over the bar. Whitehawk were then awarded a penalty in the 23rd minute after Poate fouled Hawks captain Sergio Torres in the penalty area, however David Martin could only hit the post. Despite the miss, The Hawks took the lead 9 minutes later as Danny Mills connected to a great cross by Nick Arnold to chip the ball over a helpless George Legg in the Gosport goal to score his 18th goal of the season.
The Hawks dominated proceedings throughout the afternoon in blustery conditions on the South Coast and the hosts asserted their dominance by getting a Second goal through Alex Osborn in the 67th minute, who latched onto the end of a ball into the penalty area by Jake Robinson. Robinson himself then turned from provider to scorer in the 83rd minute as he curled home an effort from close range to seal a win for The Hawks, who continue to look up the table, and also condemn Gosport to their 5th straight league defeat.
