Whitehawk 0-0 Wealdstone
Saturday 20th August
National League South
Wealdstone kept their unbeaten start to the season going following a goalless draw against Whitehawk on Saturday in a game which lacked intensity.
Chances were few and far between during the entire game but The Stones were on the front foot throughout with a host of chances early in the first half, with Omar Koroma looking most likely to score for the visitors, though he was stopped twice by the offside flag. New signing Elliott Benyon had the best chance of the half to take the lead, but he fired his effort narrowly wide. With Half Time lurking, Adri Munoz made a brilliant save to deny a free-kick by Daniel Green to keep it level at the break.
Weather conditions during the game were at times awful and there looked to be doubts on whether The Hawks’ new-look cosmopolitan side would be able to cope and at times during the Second Half they were unable to cope with Wealdstone with Elliott Benyon forcing 2 brilliant saves from Hawks goalkeeper Munoz in quick succession. The only real talking point of the game was The Stones being denied a penalty late in the game after an apparent handball by Chris M’Boungou, though all appeals were turned down by referee Colin Lymer. All in all, it was a poor game, but Wealdstone will be happy to leave The Enclosed Ground with their unbeaten start intact, with Whitehawk’s new side still looking to gel together after 1 win in 5.
